ALBA PÁRAMO
Alba Páramo

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico

Alba studied fine arts at The Art Students League of New York, where she lived for ten years before moving to Amsterdam. There, she worked for two years at the AGALAB printmaking studio and launched her own silk-screen printing brand on textiles, Alba Páramo Studio. She currently resides in Paris and works at the Contrepoint printmaking studio.

Páramo’s work is based on copperplate engraving. After working on the plate, she hand-paints each engraving with gouache and Japanese gold watercolor. Each print becomes a unique object, rather than a static image.

The artist’s process is time-consuming, so she only produces very small editions, ranging from five to ten prints. Her work is inspired by the spiritual connection between animals and humans, her Mexican roots, ancient cultures, and dream interpretation.

Alba considers that the most important aspect of her work (besides its quality) is the symbolism of this sacred connection to convey a message and raise awareness about the preservation of the natural world and how we are disconnected from it. There is no “us and them,” “me and you,” only one world that we share.
